This Is What You Want to Do in the Summer in Zell Am See

Sunrise Hike to Plettsaukopf

Really cool to do and a perfect start from the town of Zell am See: A sunrise hike to Plettsaukopf! Of course you can also do this walk during the day, but if you start before sunrise and if you are at the top when the sun comes over the mountains, the view may be just a bit more magical. The Plettsaukopf reservoir is an incredibly photogenic lake and when you stand above it, you have a really spectacular view of the surrounding mountain peaks. We had parked our car at the parking garage (Rathaus Garage) at the Cityxpress Valley Station in Zell Am See (this is near the cable car) and started the route up from there. There wasn’t really an official route for the walk we did, actually we did part of the “4 lakes tour”, but you can find trails via Google Maps. After your trip to the Pletssaukopf you can extend your walk further with the complete 4 Lakes Route, check this map. The walk from the parking garage that we did to the Pletssaukopf Reservoir was about 1.5 and 2 hours.

If there was one thing that was extremely cool to do in Zell am See, it was paragliding! Wow what an experience that is! If you’ve never paraglided before: Do it at least once in your life. Run down a mountain with your guide, let yourself be carried by the kite, soar meters high above the trees and then be completely overwhelmed by the mountainous landscape. It really is an indescribably cool experience & the paragliders of Falken Air Tandem Paragliding are guaranteed to ensure that you have a special flight! And for those who want: They can also perform tricks during your flight, so if you want some extra adrenaline, you can indicate this!

SUP, Canoeing, Relaxing and Eating at Lake Zell

A must when the weather is nice: Spend an afternoon at Lake Zell! You can enjoy supping & canoeing here, but also ultimate relaxation by the water and chill out in a bikini on a lawn. Oh and would you like a bite to eat and a drink? You can also have a nice lunch here at Seecamp! In summer this is really the place to relax and do nothing.

Go Out for Dinner at These 3 Restaurants in Zell Am See

Did you know that Zell am See also has some really good restaurants? We ate in the chic restaurant Vogl in our hotel Haidvogl Mavida . This restaurant is a gourmet restaurant where only culinary delights and the best wines are served, if you want a special evening, then you really want to eat here! And another great restaurant that you don’t want to miss in Zell am See is Flo’s Restaurant. We enjoyed a 6-course surprise dinner from the chef here and also had a delicious meal here. If you want a special evening, this is highly recommended and while you’re there, don’t skip the welcome cocktail!

Do you want something more accessible to eat out? But in an incredibly hip restaurant? Then you want to sit down at Luis Gardens. They cook here with herbs from their own greenhouse and with many local products. Super fun and a nice hip place in the town.

Enjoy the Mountains at 3,000 Meters Altitude

If you are in Zell am See – Kaprun, there is one more thing you really don’t want to miss and that is taking the cable car up the Kitzsteinhorn! A new cable car connection has been made, the 3K connection, and with that the lifts can take you up to 3029 meters. So high you really have an unforgettable view of the mountains and standing at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters is really an experience that you will not soon forget. You have super beautiful viewpoints and platforms on which you can enjoy the view.

A nice thing is that in the summer you are surrounded by snow while you can also lie in a bikini on Lake Zell the afternoon before (or on the same day). Two extremes. Oh and are you a real daredevil? And mountain lover? Then there is something you can do to make your visit extra fun. Some mornings, from 9 a.m., you can climb the Kitzsteinhorn summit with a guide. You need really good walking shoes and very warm clothes, but once at the top you will find a really spectacular view. Check the photo below, a few people from our tour group did this and Manuel took this photo.

Have a Picnic or Have Drinks in the Sound of Music Vibes

Zell am See is full of nice mountain huts, but in summer there are also many nice places to have a picnic. We picked up a picnic basket from one of the tents down by the cable car, at the restaurant Maisi Alm in Kaprun (this is right next to the cable car station), but you can of course also score something delicious at the supermarket and take it upstairs. We eventually went for a picnic on a lawn near the Maiskogel. If you sit on such a green field with a view of the mountains in the summer, you are guaranteed to experience some The Sound of Music vibes. Oh and would you rather join a nice mountain hut? Then after your sunrise hike you have to take the cable car to the Panorama Restaurant on the Schmitten. From here we also went paragliding and here you can really relax outside in the summer and have a delicious breakfast.

Make an Unforgettable Helicopter Flight With SennAir

Zell am See is incredibly beautiful to see from the air. Whether you’re standing on a viewing platform at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters or hanging from a paraglide… The view is unforgettable everywhere. But do you want to take your trip to an even higher level? Then you should book a flight with a helicopter with SennAir! This really made our summer trip to Zell am See even cooler than it already was. You fly very close to the mountain tops and if you go on a sunny morning, the view is even more enchanting and beautiful than ever. Something for your bucket list this!

Take an E-bike Tour on the Mitterberg

You can also do super cool e-bike tours around Zell am See. You will then go out with an electric mountain bike and with it you can enjoy cycling in this mountainous area. If you want to do something different for a day than hiking and walking, this is also a very cool and chill way to discover the area and places like the Mitterberg. There are several places in Zell am See where you can rent e-bikes, one of the parties where you can go is Intersport Bründl, for example. They are located in several places in Salzburgerland and Tyrol and always have good bikes.
